What are the precautions for computer internal connection cables
Jul 18, 2025

Although the internal connection cables of the computer (motherboard power supply, SATA, fan, RGB, USB front end, etc.) have low voltage, high density and fast signal, even a slight negligence can cause the computer to crash, burn out or not light up. Remember the following 7 points, light up once and stay stable for a long time:

Power off plug and unplug

ATX power supply 5 VSB standby still has power, be sure to shut down → unplug the mains power → press the chassis power button for 3 seconds to discharge before operating.

Being foolproof ≠ omnipotent

24 Pin, 8 Pin EPS, PCIe 8/6+2 Pin have a "snap" direction, align with the notch and press vertically to the bottom, and hear a "click" sound. Violent counterattack will bend the needle.

High current wire ≥ 18 AWG

CPU 8 Pin、 The graphics card 8-pin and SATA power cables must be 18 AWG (or 16 AWG) all copper, and inferior 20 AWG cables will burn yellow and turn black.

Keep the signal line away from interference

SATA 6 Gbps, USB 3.2 ribbon cable with edge to edge routing, maintaining a distance of ≥ 1 cm from the 12V fan cable to avoid crosstalk and speed drop.

The bending radius of the front USB-C cable should be ≥ 30 mm, otherwise the 10 Gbps signal eye diagram will close.

Fan/RGB overload protection

Single motherboard fan port ≤ 1 A (≈ 4 fans), ARGB 5V port ≤ 3 A; overload uses SATA/Molex direct supply.

Line management without pressure plate

The back line space is ≥ 15 mm; the bulging of the side panel will flatten the 24 pin line, causing a 12V drop and restart.
