How to prevent aging of connecting wires
Jul 25, 2025

Preventing aging of connecting wires=selecting the right materials+controlling the environment+frequent maintenance. Break down the method into "four sentences" and follow them daily or annually:

Choose the right materials

XLPE, silicone, FEP and other materials with a temperature resistance of 125 or above, UV resistance, and oil resistance are used outdoors or in high-temperature areas; When choosing flame-retardant PVC for household use, identify V-0 grade and do not choose recycled materials.

Control the environment

• Temperature: Keep away from heating and engine compartment, and add insulation cotton if necessary;

Humidity: Place desiccants in the cable tray and add breathable valves to outdoor joints;

• Lighting: Outdoor wiring should be threaded through corrugated pipes or metal cable trays to avoid direct sunlight exposure.

Control load

Bending radius ≥ 6D, dead bending is prohibited;

Current ≤ 80% of rated value, leaving a 20% margin to prevent heating;

Mechanical fixed point spacing ≤ 50 cm to reduce vibration wear.

Diligent maintenance

Every 6 months: visually inspect whether the sheath is cracked or discolored;

Every year: Measure the insulation resistance with a megohmmeter and replace it immediately if it is less than 0.5 M Ω;

Apply silicone grease to the joint once a year to prevent oxidation.
